Toyota Premio vs Allion: what’s the difference?
The Premio and the Allion are twins. Since 2007 (the T260 generation) both have been built on the same platform with the same engines, gearbox and parts. Toyota sold them through different dealer networks in Japan, aimed at slightly different buyers.

What’s the same
The engines — the 1.5-litre 1NZ-FE (NZT260), the 1.8-litre 2ZR (ZRT260) and the 2.0-litre 3ZR (ZRT261), all with a CVT, plus a 1.8 with 4WD (ZRT265). Running costs, fuel consumption, ground clearance and mechanical parts are the same.
What’s different
- Styling: the Premio is the more formal, executive-looking car with more chrome; the Allion is a little sportier and younger in feel.
- Interior trim and equipment vary by grade, so compare the actual cars rather than the badge.
- Price: in Kenya the Premio usually commands a slightly higher price for its status image, so the Allion can be the better-value buy.
Which should you buy?
Choose on condition, mileage and history rather than the badge — mechanically they’re the same car. If you want the executive look, go for the Premio; if you want the same reliability for a little less, look at the Allion. The 1.8 is the best all-rounder, and the 2.0 adds pull for upcountry trips.
